I’m kind of phoning it in this week because I have used up all my free time painting my living room and hallway. I hate painting. It always takes longer than I think it will. Unforeseen (by me anyway) complications arise. Behold, my visual report of the painting experience.
Here’s the before of my living room. I painted this room almost 15 years ago right after I closed on the house and before I moved in. It was a great color for a while, but it was the same color as the Seattle sky in winter, plus it didn’t match my newly reupholstered sofa (also visible in some of the pics). Also, it was pretty beaten up after 15 years. (Speaking of which – 15 years?!? How did 15 years get past me so quickly?)
This lamp is soon to star in an episode of “Backyard Spray Paint.”
Yes, that’s a giant area of missing paint to the right of the window. More on that in a minute.

More color sampling. Maybe I should have just left it like this. Oh, and that color on the left? 1972 called and they want their washer/dryer set back.
About 15 minutes before I took this picture, I had a scraper in hand and thought … I’ll just remove this little spot of flaking paint. And then … I think it kind of looks like a chubby Lake Washington.
And, here’s the after:
Cat not included. Note the new paint color on the lamp. Now I want a new shade.
Doorway, seashells, music cabinet. Move along, nothing to see here.
The brown accent wall. Several people were alarmed that I was painting a wall dark brown, but it looks really nice. I love color.
Can you believe that just 48 short hours ago, this looked like a map of Lake Washington?

Looks beautiful! My house is due for a repaint as well but I think I’ll but if off for another 10 years or so.

You didd a great job, great colors, hard to believe you hate painting. Will have to take your word for it that the dark brown wall looks good, not seeing it from the pics.
